The first stage of the National J/24 Championship, a three day event, was held as a test event in light of the 2019 European Championship. Three races were held on the first day with a north directional wind reaching 18-25 knots creating short waves. The weather challenged the athletes and made the races interesting. On the 2nd day, the weather conditions were much worse in the morning and only 2 races were eventually held in the afternoon. On the 3rd day the weather was very unstable, with rain pouring down in the morning and constant changes in the wind’s direction and speed. The race presented athletes with unexpected challenges in comparison to last year’s race offering both athletes and spectators a more interesting race with a wider variety of challenges.
The regatta was ideal and the favorable weather allowed races to evolve under different conditions. The idyllic scenery, especially around the time the sun set, impressed the competitors. This event, which was a great test event for all athletes, was an opportunity to learn; prepare for an excellent event at the European level.
